The issue of quality in health care has received significant coverage in recent years, consistent with both community and health care sector concerns. In 2004, Palliative Care Australia (PCA) undertook a widespread consultation with consumers and the health care sector to inform the revision of the existing Standards (3rd ed, 1999).
The Standards for Providing Quality Palliative Care for all Australians (4th ed, 2005) were developed reflecting the feedback obtained through this consultation process.
Further information on the Standards is available from the Palliative Care Australia website.
